HYDS presents Argos Flow at XII Spanish Dams Conference – SPANCOLD 2021

hyds has participated in the XII Spanish Dams Conference – SPANCOLD 2021, held in Gran Canaria from September 27 to October 2. hyds has presented its Argos Flow service developed together with CRAHI-UPC for the Catalan Water Agency (ACA). Argos Flow is a probabilistic flow forecasting service for reservoir management that has been implemented in a large part of the reservoirs in the internal basins of Catalonia.

hyds presentation has focused on showing the details of the service developed for the ACA, and its construction process, contemplating the needs of the ACA oriented with the fundamental focus of having a tool to carry out preventive laminations. In this way, optimal management of the water resource is facilitated by optimizing rolling guards and improving the management of the safety of the dams and the reduction of risks due to flooding.

The Argos Flow system implemented for the ACA integrates data of different kinds (flow stations, rain gauges, data from reservoirs, meteorological radar, meteorological predictions, etc.) and performs probabilistic flow predictions at flow points and reservoirs using hydrological models. Based on these predictions, possible volumes to be compatible with the previous state of the basin reservoirs are estimated. As such, the Argos Flow service is accessible permanently and from any device. Internally, it has been designed at a modular level to allow to increase its functionalities in a simple way or to integrate new information that is appropriate, allowing very agile implementations.
